I’m very into techno currently but don’t have a huge library of it so I only have “openers, mid energy, tension building, and release” playlists. Another commenter described how they have a slew of different techno playlists. Long story short, what I’m getting at is that playlisting is 100% what works for you and the type of DJ you are. So I have a folder of “High Energy Big Drop” with further playlists of “Bright lyrics, bright no lyrics, dark lyrics, dark no lyrics” and so on down to low energy openers consisting of deep house, tech house, and funk/groove house. Then, with the music I really enjoy (all forms of house from traditional to electro), I organize by mood and energy. This autopopulates as its added to my collection. Also, drunk white girls wont really notice set building so it’s not AS important.ĮDM style music: Every specific genre in a genre smart crate. I have genre tags as well and I know most of the tracks so I don’t need much description. My top 40/hip-hop/R&B: Sort by groupings of 10 BPM. For me, someone who is trying to break through the bar/club scene in a smaller city (~130,000 people) with no big university, I have to collect, understand, and play a huge variety of music. Getting ideas from people is great, but make sure you do what makes sense to YOU. So I use Rekordbox, but the basics are the same.
